NGO to repair 14,000 wheelchairs

NORTHERN PROVINCE GICUMBI — International Mobility Solutions (IMS), a local NGO that works in conjunction with Inkurunziza Community Based Rehabilitation project (CBR-Inkurunziza), is set to repair wheelchairs for 14,000 people with physical disabilities countrywide. This was revealed to The New Times by the founder of IMS Graig Lenz, at Gicumbi district last Friday. “Our organisation is committed to securing and repairing wheel chairs of disabled people in the entire country,” said Graig, a disabled person himself. Graig further said the wheelchairs were distributed by Wheel Chair Foundation (WCF), a charity organisation based in California- USA of which Graig is a member. The WCF solicits funds for the purchase of the wheelchairs for vulnerable disabled people world wide. CBR- Inkurunziza’s field supervisor, Godwin Ntambara said their organisation maintains wheelchairs in addition to providing health services, such as treating epilepsy, eye diseases and providing physiotherapy services among others. “We also adopt and rehabilitate vulnerable groups within the Rwandan community,” said Ntambara. Over 50 people with physical disabilities in the Gicumbi district brought their wheel chairs to IMS for repair, while others registered for new ones. Ends
