Rwanda National Police (RNP) have confirmed that seven out of the 11 people who were injured by a grenade explosive in Ndera sector, Gasabo district were discharged from hospital on Friday, May 08. The incident took place on Thursday, May 07 after a 25 year-old man identified as Jean Paul Tunezerwe detonated a grenade in a hair salon. He was a resident of Ndera Sector and regular customer at this salon. Tunezerwe succumbed to this incident, which preliminary findings have ruled out terrorism as the motive. In a tweet, RNP noted that other patients are also in good conditions at Rwanda Military Hospital where they are being treated. Good morning, Update on last evening grenade explosion in Ndera Sector, Gasabo District: So far, seven (07) people have been discharged while four (04) remain admitted at Rwanda Military Hospital and are in stable condition. 1/2 — Rwanda National Police (@Rwandapolice) May 8, 2020 As detailed investigations are ongoing to ascertain the source of the grenade, RNP in the tweet urged the public to come forth with information in case they had been on contact with Tunezerwe on the fateful day. “We request anyone who met Jean Paul Tunezerwe yesterday to come out and share with us any information you may have about him. Call 112 or 0788311155 (also on WhatsApp),” reads a tweet from police. In a statement earlier, police said that Tunezerwe entered the salon and proceeded to occupy the seat from where he was to get a haircut, but then told his barber that he had something in his pocket which he tried to show the barber identified as Pacific Niyikiza. “Inside his pocket was a smoke-emitting grenade. On seeing the grenade, Niyikiza immediately told Tunezerwe to get out of the salon and in the process the grenade detonated. Out of the 11 people who were injured, two were reported to be in critical condition.
