Last year I read a book called “Giving’’ by Bill Clinton, and it amazed me in so many ways — how all of us can change the world. Just imagine; if all of us gave what we can, what would the impact be? Even if we have something small, and we mobilise others to give what they have, and put it all together, it can amount to something big. Even if you don’t have much, that shouldn’t stop you from giving. You do not have to have all the resources, even reaching others who have the means is valuable. Giving is not one-sided. When you give you feel happy, and so does the person to whom you are giving. As believers, the Bible advises us to give. All of us need to give, especially at a time like this. No one is too young or too old to give. One recent great example is a war veteran, Captain Tom Moore. He mobilised the public in an effort to fundraise resources for the NHS (National Health Service) in the UK before his 100th birthday. As frail as he is, he walked 100 times around his garden and as he continued to walk, he would get sponsorship from the public. In total, he topped $37.4m for the NHS. There are more heroes out there and around us doing whatever they can to help others. Everyone can make a difference. No one is too old, too young, too rich or too poor to give. Today there are people around us who lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic and cannot feed their families. The government has helped many, and some companies have given assistance towards this. Families and individuals can also do something in their communities to help those in need. Last year, I was part of a church programme that encouraged us to put a care package together for the sick children in hospitals. I organised all my family members to buy a few items on the list, whatever they could, and in the end, it was a lot more than I could have given on my own. We can all make a difference using whatever we have, even our skills, to make a difference and be the change we want to see in our community and our world at large.
