Rwanda discharged four more Covid-19 patients and reported four new cases on Sunday, May 3, bringing the tally of confirmed cases to 259 of which 124 have recovered. The results were drawn from 1,047 samples out of total 34,350 tests carried out since the pandemic outbreak in Rwanda. According to the Ministry of Health, the surge in numbers is attributed to a rise in cases of cross-border truck drivers and their assistants. The government introduced new measures to contain the spread of the virus through border posts. With no reported fatalities so far, the Ministry of Health said in a statement that all active cases are in stable condition at designated COVID-19 treatment centres. Since March 14 when the pandemic was first recorded in Rwanda, several directives were introduced to curb its spread, the latest being the mandatory use of masks in public and in multi-family compounds. Globally, coronavirus cases have risen to more than 3,539,654 while the death toll now stands at over 247,033 and 1,147,589 recovered cases.
