Rwanda has won eleven more gold medals and one bronze at the ongoing 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Shanghai, China. After bagging three gold and two silver medals on Wednesday, the national football team thumped their Algerian counterparts 5-1 in the 5-a-side championship final to bag seven gold medals. Algeria won silver while India settled for Bronze after beating Spain to third spot. On top of winning the championship, Rwanda also topped the scoring charts with 23 goals. The other four gold medals came in from Aline Mukamana, Françoise Uwiragiye, Claudine Uwimana and Justin Rwamuningi. Mukamana won the 800m race, Uwiragiye claimed the 50m race while Uwimana and Rwamuningi clocked 01:18:16 and 4:23:85 respectively to win the 400m and 1500m races. There is still more promise for more medals after six local athletes qualifying for the 4* 100 relays finals, 3000m and long jump events respectively. The other locals to secure silverware at the event include Ernest Minani, Evona Nayituriki, Rehema Cyizere, Yvonne Nyirasafari, Ernestine Nyirangenda and Teonelle Irivuzemaliya respectively. The Special Olympic event is open to both children and adults with intellectual disability and this year attracted 7000 athletes, making it the biggest ever. The Rwandan delegation is represented by 18 athletes who are participating in athletics and football. Ends
