The African Volleyball Club Championship, that was scheduled to take place in Cairo, Egypt, from March 31 to April 11, has been postponed, according to the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB). The tournament, like many other sporting events worldwide, was postponed due to the outbreak of the coronavirus that has ravaged the world. Rwanda Energy Group and University of Tourism, Technology and Business Studies (UTB) were set to be Rwanda’s representatives at the continental show piece. Silvestre Mbanza, the Head Coach of UTB women volleyball club, said that club players will continue to do individual training as they continue to monitor how the situation evolves. “We have given our playing staff some time off but we have encouraged them to continue training individually until we think it is okay to have group training sessions,” said Mbanza. REG and UTB won the national volleyball championship last season in the men and women categories respectively. Al Ahly Sporting Club was due to host the tournament. CAVB, Egypt Volleyball Federation and Al Ahly are closely monitoring and will determine new dates during which the event will be held.
