Rwanda’s U18 basketball teams (boys and girls) are in Kampala where they will take part in the FIBA Zone V Championships scheduled for June 9-14 at Lugogo Indoor Stadium in the Ugandan capital. Both teams left Kigali International Airport on Friday night, June 7, aboard RwandaAir. The boys’ team is under the guidance of Yves Murenzi, while the girls’ team is coached by Jacques Bahige. Some 10 teams from Zone 5 have confirmed their participation at the tournament. They include Somalia, Tanzania, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Burundi, Sudan and hosts Uganda. Egypt, winners of FIBA U18 African Championship 2022 (boys) and runners-up in the girls' category, will automatically play in the 2024 edition on a wild card.
