Rayon Sports football club have put on hold their search for a new head coach with the club willing to let assistant coach Alain Kirasa continue in an interim position for the time being, according to club spokesperson Jean-Paul Nkurunziza. “We are not looking for a new coach at the moment and once we decide to, we shall inform our fans and the media,” Nkurunziza said when asked whether the club was vetting any candidates for one of the most coveted football jobs in the country. Kirasa has been in charge of the Blues since December and has won three games and drawn one, including the thrashing of Intare 4-0 on Wednesday in the first round of Peace Cup. Last month, Rayon Sports officials said they were considering appointing a new coach with former AS Kigali coach Andre Casa Mbungo the leading contender while Sunrise coach Moses Basena was also touted for the job. The Blues fired former coach Javier Martinez in December after a 2-0 defeat against archrivals APR in the Rwanda Premier League. Meanwhile, Kirasa has insisted that not only will his side fight to retain the league title, but they will also put a lot of focus in the Peace Cup because winning it guarantees qualification for the Caf Confederations Cup. After 18 matches into the 2019-20 league season, Rayon are second with 38 points, four behind leaders APR.
