UTB women volleyball team have shifted focus on the upcoming 2020 league season after retaining the Heroes Cup title over the weekend. The women’s national volleyball league kicks-off on February 8. Versity side UTB will be looking to win the league title for a second time in as many seasons after defying the odds – on their maiden attempt – to bring to an end Rwanda Revenue Authority’s dominance of seven years last season. “Winning the league title (again) is top priority for us,” said UTB head coach Sylvetre Mbanza. He added: “We need to be ready. It is going to be a tough season because we will also play the African championships. Winning the Heroes Cup is a good boost of morale.” The Kicukiro-based side, who will represent the country at this year’s CAVB Women’s African Club Championships in March, retained the Heroes Cup after beating archrivals APR in straight sets in the final at Amahoro Stadium on Saturday. 2020 league teams: RRA, UTB, Ruhango, APR, IPRC-Kigali and Kigali Volleyball Club.
