After two years of doing music, one of Rwanda’s fast-rising artistes, Igor Mabano, is set to launch is his debut album, since he launched his career in 2018. The 25-year-old, singer, songwriter and producer shot to fame in 2018, with his first single “Iyo Utegereza” that received massive airplay and has since released eight more songs under the management of Kina Music. On March 21, Mabano will launch his 12-track album dubbed, “Urakunzwe”, at Kigali Serena Hotel. The album’s named after one of his singles, with an Indian-Arab catchy rhythm, was released in September last year. With eight singles, a combination of R&B, Soul and Afro-pop, under his belt, the singer, in an interview with The New Times, said that the 9th track, a dancehall song, is set to be released, while the remaining three songs will be out before the launch. “I wanted to give my fans something different although soul music is still my style and I intend to focus more on it, so many of my songs will be that genre,” he explained. Nel Ngabo, another rising singer and member of Kina Music, who featured in one of Mabano’s hit tracks called, “Gake”, will be the opening act at the launch, alongside Sebeya Band, which he co-founded in 2014. Despite releasing a number of songs, the singer has been in the shadows, hardly performing at shows, due to his busy schedule at Rwanda School of Creatives and Art, where he teaches drums, studio beat making and stage performance. He credits his success to his management of Kina Music, where he says he has learned a lot. His major career highlight, according to the singer, is performing at Rwanda Day in Bonn, Germany, last year and at the first daughter’s wedding. Tickets to the show will go for Rwf10, 000 (regular), while couples will pay Rwf15, 000.
