The Italian ambassador to Rwanda, Massimiliano Mazzanti, on Thursday, paid a courtesy call to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru. The visit was within the framework of the existing working relations between Rwanda and Italy Police institutions. The partnership is guided by the cooperation pact signed in January 2017, which elaborates exchange of best practices and capacity building in varied areas of Policing. The agreement focuses mainly on training; counter-terrorism, public order management, traffic and road safety, peace support operations, aviation security, border security and cybercrime investigations, among others. IG Munyuza and the Italian envoy discussed matters related to maintaining and strengthening the existing partnership between RNP and Carabinieri (Italian Police). “… I am proud of our partnership; that I promise to continue to support actively and develop as part of my mandate as an ambassador of Italy to Rwanda,” Massimiliano said. He commended the discipline and “great services” rendered by the Rwanda National Police in contributing to maintaining the stability, safety and peace of the country. Munyuza thanked Massimiliano for visiting RNP and commended the strong and thriving partnership between RNP and Carabinieri, adding that cross-border cooperation is inevitable in responding to and preventing modern threats to security and development. Under this partnership framework between RNP and Carabinieri, over 550 Rwandan Police officers have been trained in various policing disciplines such as counter-terrorism, aviation security, road safety and traffic management, public order management, canine and special forces training.
