Kigali-based swimming club, Mako Sharks, were overall winners of the fourth edition of the “Summer Invitational Swimming Championship” that concluded at Green Hills Academy on Sunday, June 2. ALSO READ: Mako Sharks lead in medals at 2024 swimming Genocide memorial tourney The two-day swimming competition, held over the weekend from June 1-2, is organized by the Mako Sharks which is rising to prominence in Rwandan swimming. The 2024 edition featured over 170 athletes from four teams from Uganda and three domestic, marking the second time the event has been held internationally. The Ugandan teams included Aquatic Academy Kampala, Hertz Swim Club, Silverfin Academy, and Whales Swim Academy Entebbe. Rwanda was represented by Cercle Sportif de Karongi, Kigali Sporting Club, and the host and organising team Mako Sharks. Mako Sharks won the trophy with 3,597 points, overcoming stiff competition from Uganda’s Aquatic Academy Kampala who scored 3,590.5 points. Silverfin Academy (Uganda) secured third place with 1,658 points, while Cercle Sportif de Karongi emerged in fourth place with 1,127 points. Hertz Swim Club (Uganda) came in fifth with 929 points, Kigali Sporting Club placed sixth with 492 points, and Whales Swim Academy Entebbe (Uganda) finished seventh with 210 points.
