When Callixte Nsabimana who calls himself “Sankara” was first arrested in May last year, it was the beginning of the end of the armed group that goes by the name FLN. It is the armed wing of a loose coalition headed by Paul Rusesabagina and Faustin Twagiramungu who are based in Europe. When they started launching attacks on Rwanda, the posturing and bravado increased. Going by the wrong assumption that since they had the support of some neighbouring countries, it would be a walk in the park. Today it is a different story. But what is most astonishing is that their leaders operate openly in Brussels, hold press conferences and even announce new appointments in their terror organization. They do all that under the nose of Belgian security officials. It is a serious issue; it is not the same as Twagiramungu and his likes negating the Genocide against the Tutsi openly. People who claim responsibility for terror attacks, whose fighters are captured on the battlefield of a foreign nation, are not exercising any freedoms. The African Union gave itself an impossible challenge of silencing the guns by 2020. The way things stand, it is clear nothing much was done to meet that challenge, otherwise, it would have lobbied nations harbouring warmongers to do something about it. The only person doing something about it is the Congolese government who have spared nothing to get rid of armed groups on its territory, and they are doing a marvellous thing. Now, imagine if other countries came to its aid to clean up the remaining thugs, then well and truly would the guns in the Congo go silent by the end of this year. As for the rest of Africa? Only God knows.
