The Gambian Minister of Defence, Sheikh Omar Faye, is leading a delegation to Rwanda on a study tour, with a view to successfully implement their own restructuring and security sector reform processes. On Tuesday, the delegation called on the Minister of Defence, Maj General Albert Murasira at the ministry headquarters in Kimihurura and the two discussed how they can enhance bilateral ties between the two countries. “Rwanda has been a friend of The Gambia from day one and we applaud the leadership of the President Kagame and President Barrow in the African spirit of unity. Basically this is why we are here,” said Faye. He added: “The way forward is to build very strong cooperation. Maybe have our people come here to do training, also have your people to come to The Gambia to see where we are to strengthen the capacity of our people in terms of defence and other areas.” Earlier, the delegation had visited Zigama CSS, a Financial Cooperative with a membership drawn from six security institutions in the country that has been key in uplifting the welfare of armed forces in the country. Faye was recently been appointed Minister of Defence by President Burrow, relinquishing the position that was under the presidency for decades. The Gambian delegation also includes the Permanent Secretary.
