APR Women Volleyball Club on Sunday, May26, defeated arch-rivals Police women to win the 2024 women’s volleyball league title. The military beat Police 3-1 (27-25, 26-24, 14-25 and 29-27) in the title-deciding match held at Ecole Notre Dame des Anges, Remera. Both teams had their playoff final series tied 1-1 before APR prevailed to win the series 2-1. The final playoffs which started on Friday saw Police take Game 1 after thrashing APR 3-0 before the military side came back on Saturday to win 3-2 sets in the second game of the best of three series. Kamasa's side refused a surrender the title for the second time after losing it to Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) women last season. Inspired by receiver attackers Benitha Mukandayisenga, captain Valentine Munezero, Divine Musabyimana, center players Flavia Dusabe, Albertine Uwiringimana, libero Betty Uwamahoro and setter Ernestine Akimanizanye, APR looked too tough to handle their good spikes, defense, blocks, and services thanks to which they won the crunch game 3-1 (27-25, 26-24, 14-25 and 29-27) to lift the title. Police put up a spirited fight in three sets, but their effort wasn’t good enough to cope with the APR ladies. Kamasa had promised the APR management to win the the title with the women’s team. It was his third league title of his coaching career and his first as a head coach. “Am just happy. The players did a very good job. They did what in asked them and here we are. We are the champions,” the coach told Times Sport. In men’s league finals, APR also won the championship after beating Kepler 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 22-25, 29-27) in Game 3 on to win the final series 2-1. The champions will subsequently represent Rwanda at the 2025 Africa men and women's championship which will take place in April and May 2025.
