Six teams have confirmed their participation at the third edition of the annual Gisagara Preseason Volleyball Tournament, which takes place this weekend in Gisagara District. The six teams include organisers and holders Gisagara, Rwanda Energy Group (REG), UTB, APR, Kirehe and IPRC-East. The reigning league champions, REG, were winners of the tournament’s inaugural edition in January 2018, while Gisagara claimed the second edition last November. Speaking to Saturday Sport on Friday, REG head coach Benon Mugisha said that the tournament will help him to assess his players ahead of the new season. “We wanted to use the tournament as a test to players and to our collective game. But at the same time, we will play with intention to win. We won’t underrate any opponent,” said Mugisha. The 2019/2020 national volleyball league kicks off on November 9. Following their triumphant 2018-19 league season, REG will represent the country at this year’s African Club Championships editor@newtimesrwanda.com
