Rwanda Basketball Federation has applied to host the Basketball Africa League (BAL) Second Round Qualifiers that will get underway next month through to December. The development was confirmed by the federation president, Desire Mugwiza in an interview with Times Sport on Monday. “After our club reached the second round, we sent our request to the international basketball federation to host the second round of BAL because we have all the requirements including Kigali Arena and hotels,” said Mugwiza. During the first round of the BAL qualifiers, Rwanda reigning champions Patriots marched into the second and final round after an impressive display of a four back-to-back wins, finishing off with an unbeaten record. Group D of which Patriots was, played its games in the Tanzanian coastal city of Dar es Salaam and the Rwandan side ended their campaign on Sunday with an impressive win over Ugandan side City Oilers. He added “For now we don’t know the other countries that have put in their bids to host the competition but we shall know very soon and we are confident that we will have that chance of hosting this big event”. Patriots beat Oilers 74-63 to end their campaign in style, having previously won their first three games against Dynamo (Burundi), Hawassa (Ethiopia) and Tanzania’s JKT from Thursday to Saturday, respectively. editor@newtimesrwanda.com
