Vulnerable residents receive houses

EASTERN PROVINCE RWAMAGANA — The National Electoral Commission (NEC) this Thursday inaugurated 20 houses constructed for vulnerable residents of Nyamirama Sector, in the Kayonza district. The houses worth Rwf.68 Million were constructed on request of the district. Addressing beneficiaries and other excited residents, the NEC chairman, Prof Chryslogue Karangwa, disclosed that the beneficiaries had been connected to the electricity grid and water from Electrogaz. He said the NEC would pick the electricity bills for the beneficiaries for a period of one month. He appealed to them to continue paying the bills after the one month instead of living in darkness. Commending the district and Electrogaz for developing the project, Karangwa noted that using tapped water and electricity was a step towards development. Turning to beneficiaries, he urged them to foster love, unity and desist from ethnic divisions, pointing out that the construction was a gesture of sharing and love for others. Karangwa added that there is still a lot which needed to be done to help others who are still in need of accommodation countrywide. Damas Muhororo, the district Mayor, asked the beneficiaries to beautify their compounds by planting flowers, trees and grass and to utilise the gardens to produce crops that could be sold to generate additional incomes in an attempt to foster self reliance. “This support came from the will NEC had since they are not richer than other organisations, it needs willingness to construct such good houses with all the necessities. The beneficiaries have their interests catered for by NEC and it is up to them to change their life for the best,” Muhororo noted. One of the beneficiaries, Vestine Musabyeyezu aged 26 was full of praise after acquiring a permanent residence. ‘Other beneficiaries and I thank God and the people who planned it for us. We cannot reward you in anyway apart from thanking you and making you know that it is a great achievement,’ she said. The ceremony was witnessed by a host of other public officials. Ends
