Rwanda’s women’s sitting volleyball team has been drawn into Group B for the upcoming 2024 Paris Paralympic Games slated for July 26 to August 11, where they will face Tokyo 2020 bronze medalists Brazil, Canada and Slovenia.
The development follows the draw announced by the World Para Volley on Tuesday, May 21.

The 17th edition of the world’s largest sporting event for athletes with disabilities will take place from August 28 to September 8, featuring 4,400 athletes competing in 22 disciplines and 539 medal rounds.
Mossad Rashad’s side secured their spot in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games after defeating Kenya in three straight sets in the final of the Africa Zone Sitting Volleyball Championship held in Lagos, Nigeria in February.
During the draw, hosts France claimed the first position in Pool A, while the remaining qualified teams were positioned according to their World Rankings as of 1 March 2024, using the serpentine system.
In the men’s tournament, France will be joined by Tokyo 2020 bronze medalists Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt and Kazakhstan in Pool A while defending Paralympic Champions Islamic Republic of Iran will face Brazil, Germany and Ukraine in Pool B for a place in the semifinals.
In the women’s tournament, France were drawn against Tokyo 2020 gold medalists USA, silver medalists China and Italy in Pool A while Rwanda found themselves in Group B alongside reigning Paralympic bronze medalists Brazil Canada, and Slovenia
This marks Rwanda's third consecutive appearance at the Paralympic Games, having previously competed in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.
Rwanda made history in Rio as the first Sub-Saharan women’s team to participate in any sport at the Paralympics.
Pool A for the 2024 Paralympic sitting volleyball competition includes France, the United States, China, and Italy.
