Bugesera FC striker Elijah Ani has joined Amavubi squad in the camp for preparations for upcoming 2026 World Cup double header against Benin and Lesotho in June. Ani, who hold Nigerian nationality, was arguably the best player in his debut season in Rwanda where he finished the 2023/24 Primus National League campaign as joint top scorer, along with Victor Mbaoma, with 15 goals. He also helped Bugesera FC to the Peace Cup final before losing the trophy to Police FC. I am in the camp with the team and I am glad to feature for the country. I will do my possible best as we hope to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, Ani told Times Sport. Rwanda currently leads Group C with four points from two games after drawing with Zimbabwe and defeating South Africa 2-0 in November 2023. Frannk Spittler's side takes on Benin on June 6 before going up against Lesotho on June 11. The team will be camping at La Palisse Hotel, Nyamata and will be holding training sessions twice a day at Ntare School football pitch.
