2,500 locals trained on capital markets

The 1st phase of the exercise benefited the opinion leaders and members of the military, civil associations and academic institutions in all the 30 districts of the country A total of 2,500 Rwandans from the country side have so far benefited from the capital markets development training, according to a Capital Market Advisory Council (CMAC) official. The training conducted by CMAC is targeting an audience that includes the media, top business executives, managers and employees of the leading institutions in Rwanda, as well as leadership in public institutions. Pierre Celestin Rwabukumba, the CMAC Operations Manager said in an interview that the campaign is aimed at attracting investors and savers who will contribute to the development of the capital markets in the country. “We are targeting government parastatals, potential issuers, policy makers and the general public in the development of our financial markets and economic development,” said Rwabukumba. According to the programme, the first phase of this exercise benefited the opinion leaders and members of the military, civil associations and academic institutions in all the 30 districts in the country. The campaign involved countrywide seminars, workshops to sensitise the public on capital markets especially in view of share offers and equity markets. In addition to the workshops, a series of TV and radio programmes have been run to educate the public about the investments. CMAC management has also participated in different sensitisation fora by invitation. It was invited by Rwanda Investment and Export Promotion Agency (RIEPA), now a Rwanda Development Board (RDB) organ to make a presentation to a Diaspora gathering in London. Other presentations included invitation by the Private Sector Federation (PSF), the School of Finance and Banking (SFB) and several women organisations. The sensitisation campaign is done in partnership with the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank. Ends
