The national Cross Country championship is due to kick off early next month in Nyarutarama but the date is yet to be confirmed. The one-day tournament will be used to select athletics, who will represent Rwanda in the world cross country championship scheduled to be held next month in Armani, Jordan. Various clubs have confirmed participation including APR Athletics club, Gatenga Athletics club, New Athletics Stars club, Police Athletics club, Puma Athletics club, Gatenga Athletics club, Gasabo Athletics club, UNR Athletics club, Kirehe Athletics club, Nyamasheke Athletics club, Ruhango Athletics club, Huye Athletics club, Muhanga athletics club. The clubs will be sending athletics to complete in various disciplines including 12km for the senior boys, and the juniors will be completing in the 6km category. Girls are also set to be divided in two categories, the seniors will be completing in 8km race, while the juniors will be racing for 6km. The winners in the various races will atomically represent Rwanda in IAAF cross country champion. Mr. Constance Twarigana, Permanent Secretary in the athletics federation, told Times Sport, that competition will be stiff and urged the public to come in droves and watch. “Our best athletics like Disi Dieudonne, Sylvain Rukundo, and Gervain Hakizimana will be out doing each other in the men’s category, while Angelique Nyiransabimana will be hoping to beat seasoned Epiphanie Nyirabarame in the senior girls’ race.” Ends
