Canada-based Nigerian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Falana is expected in the country ahead of her show, scheduled to take place on Friday, August 30. She will perform at Kigali Marriott Hotel, as part of her on going music tour. Dubbed ‘Falana Chapter one’ the live show is organised by Afrogroov, a creative company, and comes after a number of memorable high end performances from alternative and progressive international world class artistes such as Joss Stone (UK), Keziah Jones and Nneka from Nigeria, Berita (Zimbabwe), Apio Moro and Sandra Nankoma (Uganda), Winyo and Nino Ogot from Kenya, Thais Diarra and Cissoko Noumoucounda from Senegal. Falana will entertain her fans with some of her touching songs such as Ride or Die, Fall, Start Again, and Repeat, which mostly preach love, faith, purpose and empowerment, which are mostly influenced by Nigerian percussive rhythms of the 70s. Born Victoria Falana, the singer was raised in Brampton Canada. She began writing love songs in the ‘traditional pop’ style that she often heard on radio but it was upon listening to Lauryn Hill that her powerful and honest writing style began to take form. While in high school, her musical tastes expanded and she began to explore her artistic voice. While exploring her artistic voice, she discovered the music of Cuba and developed her signature “soul fusion” sound: a blend of jazz, soul, Afro beat, and R&B. Her music as influences and mixtures of Jazz, Soul, Rhythm and percussion, and even poetry. Early bird tickets to the show will go for Rwf15, 000 whereas regular and VIP tickets will go for Rwf20, 000 and 30,000 respectively. Gates will be open at exactly 6pm. editor@newtimesrwanda.com
