Vincent Mashami will on Monday name his Amavubi provisional squad ahead of their first-leg clash against the Seychelles in the preliminary round of the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers. The Pirates of Seychelles will host the first-leg at the People’s Stadium on September 5 before Rwanda hosts the decider at Kigali Stadium on September 10. After a press briefing, at Rwanda Football Association (Ferwafa) headquarters, in which the squad will be officially announced, the national team will report to residential camp on Thursday where they will be training twice a day at Amahoro Stadium. Ferwafa re-appointed Mashami in interim coach role for a period of three months last week, after serving as head coach for one year, in which Amavubi recorded suffered three defeats and two draws in the AFCON 2019 finals. The former APR and Bugesera FC tactician will be looking to power Rwanda into the group stage of the qualifiers. According to reports, Haruna Niyonzima is expected to be recalled in the team after missing Amavubi’s last two games due to lack of match fitness. The national team captain has since joined local league side AS Kigali from Tanzania champions Simba SC on a one-year deal. Striker Jacques Tuyisenge, who joined Angolan side Petro Atletico from Kenya’s Gor Mahia in May, is one of the foreign-based players who are expected to be named on the squad for the two-legged tie. editor@newtimesrwanda.com
