Congolese singer-songwriter, Fally Ipupa N’simba, commonly known by his stage name ‘Fally Ipupa’ will headline the New Year Countdown Concert slated for December 31. The highly anticipated concert, which will be staged at the Kigali Convention Centre, will usher Rwandans and all revellers into the New Year. The show is organised by Rwanda Events Group and has been bringing various international artists like Yemi Alade, Sauti Sol, Koffi Olomide among others. Although it will be his first time in the country, Fally Ipupa is no stranger to Rwandan music lovers. He is known for hit songs like Service, Original and his recent collabo “Inama” ft Diamond which has received massive airplay on local radio stations. The 2010 MTV African music award winner, 42, is multitalented and recognized through his dancing, guitar-playing and production skills. Until 2006, he was a member of Quartier Latin International, the music band founded by Koffi Olomidé in 1986. Shortly after the announcement on Thursday, Fally’s music lovers expressed their excitement. “yoooooo we get Fally Ipupa this December !! The organisers can take all my money!”, “Fally Ipupa, yes yes”, were some of the comments on social media. According to Joelle Rutagarama, sales and marketing manager at Rwanda Events Group, Fally has been on demand by many of his fans and after efforts to reach him, he is finally coming. “We will also be having international Djs like Dj Shine from France, Dj Sinyorita from Tanzania and Dj Fem from Uganda”, she revealed. The New Year countdown concert has also been a stage for local artists to showcase their talents. Rutagarama confirmed that they are still negotiating with some of them, for the concert. “This Year’s concert will be having surprises, the fireworks to begin with, and many more. It will be different because we learn from past concerts in order to give people the best”, she said. Last year’s countdown concert was graced by dancehall artist, Patoranking, as well as RnB songstress-Simi, and was attended by over 2,000 revellers. editor@newtimesrwanda.com
