Irembo’s Byikorere campaign marks one year of digital transformation in Rwanda

The Byikorere campaign, a pioneering initiative to boost digital literacy by educating Rwandans and foreigners on how to apply for government services online, is bearing fruits, Irembo stated. This month [May], as the platform celebrates the first anniversary of this transformative campaign, it is celebrating its remarkable success in empowering communities in Burera District. ALSO READ: Irembo’s payment gateway achieves international compliance, ensuring data protection Over the past week, Irembo has intensely celebrated this milestone with impactful activities conducted across various communities in Bungwe, Gatebe, Nemba, Rwerere, Gitovu, and Rugengabali sectors. Through interactive presentations, community gatherings, and educational workshops, over 2,000 students, 500 Vision Umurenge programme workers, and numerous other residents have been enlightened about the invaluable advantages of digital technology in accessing essential government services. ALSO READ: Irembo, Africa Management Institute train agents for enhanced citizen services The initiative’s endeavours highlight a collaborative effort with the National Identification Agency (NIDA) to streamline the application process for national ID services and biometric data capture. This initiative has directly benefited over 72 citizens in Burera’s Nemba sector alone. The engagement with local leaders and cooperative members has promoted self-application of payment processes, ensuring every resident has equitable access to vital services. He said this will help students apply for national IDs as soon as they are eligible, thus nurturing a digitally empowered generation. “We mark one year with joy as the self-application rate has risen from 25% to 38%, driven by our vision to empower every Rwandan citizen through Byikorere. We aim to cultivate their ability to autonomously benefit from the campaign and engage with IremboGov services, thus advancing their proficiency in digital literacy,” he said. Irembo stands as Rwanda’s foremost digital platform for accessing government services online. The platform is revolutionising the citizen-government interaction landscape with user-friendly interfaces and innovative solutions, rendering services more accessible, efficient, and transparent.
