A dramatised documentary titled, ‘The 600’, that has been showing since it was premiered on July 3, has been extended from July 15, which was supposed to be the last screening date, to July 21, at Century Cinema, at Kigali City Tower. The screening has since received massive reception from the viewers, who took to social media to express their gratitude to the producers, as well as 600 RPF soldiers, who liberated the country from one of the darkest periods of the countrys history— the 1994 against the Tutsi. A one Manzi tweeted: “This was deeply moving - a must watch! The discipline, courage and resilience of the RPA should be emulated and revered by current and future generations.” “Just watched the #The600Film-It’s such a moving documentary film & made me think about the following African proverb: “A good beginning is a halfway battle won”. @rpfinkotanyi- It was tiresome but you have made it, thank you for restoring a lost nation!” Olivier Kanamugire also posted. The 114-minute film tracks the remarkable story of the Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA) battalion, which found itself trapped, and surrounded by enemy forces, numbering up to 10,000. The movie is based on real accounts by RPF officers at the time who were involved in the rescue mission, who trekked many miles to Kigali to reconnect with the 600, who faced the threat of annihilation by genocidal forces after President Juvenal Habyarimana’s plane was downed by Hutu extremists. It also features real accounts by Tutsi survivors, who were saved by the RPF soldiers It is produced by American TV and film producer Richard Hall and co-produced by Rwandan filmmaker Annette Uwizeye. With a huge turn up all through and tickets sold out on the day of the last screening, organisers have since extended the screening to give chance to those who haven’t to see it. “Due to public demand, #The600Film is officially extended to screen at @C_Cinemas from July 15th to July 21st.
