Emmanuel Hategeka was in stunning form as he put up a strong performance to win the title of this year’s Genocide Memorial Golf Tournament over the weekend. Hategeka, the Deputy Chief Executive of Rwanda Development Board, returned a total of 42 points to outsmart a strong field of 65 golfers in a competition bankrolled by Kigali Golf Club, in Nyarutarama. Held every year since 2015, the golf memorial tournament is, like all memorial competitions in the country, ordained at paying tribute to the over one million victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Jenny Linda finished second with 41 points while Justus Kayonga returned 40 points to complete top three. Three golfers; Anselme Sakumi, Charles Munyangeyo and Gerald Bakaka are so far known to have been killed during the Genocide. editor@newtimesrwanda.com
