Senate hails RDF, Police in fight against Genocide

The Upper Chamber of Deputies last week hailed the security organs’ efforts in fighting genocide ideology in the country. The Senate disclosed that unlike the security organs, other public and private sectors in the country do not have fighting the genocide ideology in their strategic plans. “The biggest threat in the country now is not negative forces fighting Rwanda, rather it is genocide ideology,” Sen. Joseph Karemera, the president of political and social affairs commission in the Senate said. This was discussed during the annual monitoring of the scope of the genocide ideology in the country and to advise government on fighting it. The army and police were hailed for their daily routine of briefing their officers and involving the community in fighting the ideology. “Recently Kenya tasted the dangers on the dogma and other countries have to take it serious and fight it,” Karemera urged. Senators urged the Catholic Church to have a clear vision on uniting the Rwandans rather than having ineffective ‘Christian Gacaca’. “The battle to fight the dogma should be in all sector programs and their strategic plans since the issue is cross cutting,” said Dr Vincent Biruta, the Speaker told the Senate. According to the Senate, the National Commission to Fight Genocide (CNLG) should have enough budget support in order to make it a success. It suggested that the evaluation should extend to other public institutions like the Ministry of Education. The Senate also suggested that r opinion leaders should spare at least 15 to 30 minutes to discuss the dangers of the genocide ideology. In late 2007, a parliamentary probe committee report revealed damning revelations of cases of genocide ideology in many secondary schools. It came up with a list of eleven schools that were leading in cases of genocide ideology countrywide. Ends
