EASTERN PROVINCE KIBUNGO—Sector executive secretaries must “by all means” see to it that, before the end of this month, all Gacaca are concluded, in order to match government programmes. District executive secretary Gasana Charles said during a meeting bringing together sector and district officials in assessing the third phase of the performance contracts. At the beginning of this year, Ngoma district set some goals to fulfil within a year including good governance, economic development, and proper social welfare. Gasana said that the government’s target was to complete Gacaca cases in the whole country before the end of October. According to the presentation, 70 per-cent have been completed. He also requested leaders to make sure that all children of the age to go to school were doing so. “Those responsible for people’s welfare in sectors follow the problem of Aids, by showing how many people are infected in each sector so that the government can plan for these people,” Gasana said. Pauline Niyigena from the Ministry of Local Government urged residents to advise leaders and not only be advised. Democracy, he said, was a dynamic concept and process. In related new, Ngoma district passed coffee, banana, rice and pineapples as the main crops to be planted in the district. The mayor urged executives “not to sleep” but to put in more efforts and fulfil their set goals. The results will be presented again on October 11 at province headquarters. Ends
