Lambert Mugwaneza, aka Social Mula is not a name one can skip when talking of the loved artistes on the Rwandan music scene. He has been around for six years and has a number of good hits under his belt. On June 8, he made a surprise performance for students at G.S Mere du Verbe Kibeho as the school launched its new dormitories that were donated to the school by well wishers from the United States of America. He came to the school basket ball court which was the venue of the function and many of the students could not believe when they saw him on stage. Some of the female students could not hide their excitement as they just let out tears of joy. Donning a camouflage outfit; ripped jean rousers and cream sneakers and black shades, Social Mula stepped on stage for at around 2:32pm and did a number of songs including Ku ‘Ndunduru’ and ‘Humura’ as the students went crazy and left their seats to come in front of the stage where they could have a clearer view. Some of them went as far as beating security to find themselves on the stage hugging and dancing with the artist. However, their moment of joy was cut short as security didn’t let them stay there for long as they were quickly ordered to go back down. He sang for about 20 minutes before asking the students that one song they wanted before he left the stage and they all screamed in unison pleading with him to perform for them ‘Ma Vie’ which he did before he left the stage. No sooner had he left than the crowd of girls that had earlier joined him on stage again caught up with him and they hugged and took ‘selfies’ with him using phones belonging to their parents and other guardians who had come to visit them. editor@newtimesrwanda.com
