This year’s Taekwondo Genocide Memorial Tournament will be hosted in Rubavu, making it a second successive year the Western Province district has accommodated the competition. The two-day event is scheduled for June 8-9. The competition is organised every year in honour of the over one million lives lost during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Over one hundred players are expected to participate across male, female and Para-taekwondo divisions. According to Rwanda Taekwondo Federation officials, the objective of organising the tournament outside Kigali is to promote the sport countrywide. Teams from neighbouring countries such as Kenya, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo are also expected to grace the competition. editor@newtimesrwanda.com
