Saturday Caf Champions League Atraco v El Merreikh The Sudanese champions El Merreikh arrived in Kigali yesterday ahead of the second leg of the Champions league fixture against Atraco this Saturday at Amahoro stadium. The Omdurman team registered a 2-1 home victory over Atraco in the first leg. The Sudan club will stay at Sports View hotel located opposite Amahoro stadium. El Merreikh has been camping in Nairobi, Kenya where it has played a series of build-ups ahead of Saturday’s tie. In their build-ups, Merreikh played a 1-all draw against Kenyan Premier League club Sofapaka last week before hammering Gor Mahia 5-0 on Tuesday. The traveling squad boosts of towering striker Alagab Fisal, last year’s CAF Champions League top scorer, Nigerian Stephen Worgu, Hassan Lusana, Mustapha Said and Lusono Rilatchi who will all pose a serious threat against the taxi-men club. Atraco has been boosted with the return of Tom Ssemwogere who missed the first leg through injury. Atraco has to post a 1-0 win over Merreikh to reach the next level. Worgu burst into the Champions League last year, scoring an unsurpassed 13 goals as Nigeria’s Enyimba reached the semi-finals before bowing to eventual winners Al-Ahly of Egypt in a tie settled by a solitary goal. Atraco’s last continental appearance was during the 2006/07 season under coach Sam Ssimbwa when the taxi-men club failed to go beyond the second round of the Confederation Cup. Merreikh is back in the major continental club competition after twice coming close to winning the second-tier African Confederation Cup, reaching the 2007 final and just failing to repeat that feat last year.
