Renowned South African gospel artiste Benjamin Dube is set to perform in Kigali for the first time, on August 11. The gospel icon will be performing in Kigali, on invitation by local gospel choir, True Promises, in a concert. Other guest choirs that will perform at the concert are yet to be confirmed. Dube has been in the gospel music industry for over 33 years, working as a songwriter, singer, music producer, and is founder of renowned gospel choir ‘Spirit of Praise’. He is also the Bishop of High Praise Centre Church in South Africa. Speaking to The New Times about the musician, Mandela Ndahiriwe, the Secretary General of True Promises described Dube as “a mentor,” and that the choir is hoping to learn a lot from. Ndahiriwe also expressed esteem for the ‘Spirit of Worship Choir’, as a group that does not just perform, but truly worships. They are really worshipers, so we learn from them,” he said, adding that they will hold in-depth discussions with Dube concerning worship. Since the launch of his career, Dube has recorded at least 21 albums and received five crown awards, including a ‘Lifetime award’, ‘Best gospel producer.’ His performance is expected to come as good news to Christians in the country, since many of his songs are widely known in the country. editor@newtimesrwanda.com
