The Winners Football Training Centre joined mourners in Muhanga District on Thursday evening to mark the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The event was marked by a ‘Walk to Remember’ from Muhanga Stadium to Kabgayi Genocide Memorial where they paid tribute to an estimated 11,930 victims are laid to rest in that Memorial. The Muhanga-based academy produced some of the country’s renowned footballers such as APR striker Ernest Sugira and Fred Mucyo who plays for Etincelles. According to David Nshimiyimana, the president of the centre, the facility’s main focus during this time is to commemorate and pay tribute for young people. “We don’t only train football to our youngsters, but also are taught about patriotism and valuable lessons from our tragic past. The Never Again concept has to start from young people.” editor@newtimesrwanda.com
