Kazura, Kalisa leave for Lagos

Ferwafa officials Brig. Gen. Jean Bosco Kazura and Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa left for Lagos, Nigeria this morning to attend the 31st Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (Caf) due this afternoon. The General Assembly will be essentially be marked by elections to the Presidency, the Executive committee and representatives into the Executive Committee of Fifa. Elected in 1988, President Issa Hayatou whose mandate was renewed in 1992, 1996, 2000 and in 2004 is assured of staying at the helm of CAF until 2013 as no other candidate declared his intentions to contest. A similar situation is being experienced with the executive committee for zone A and B where the outgoing members Malian Amadou Diakite and the Nigerian Amos Adamu, are without any opponents. For the North Zone, Algerian Mohamed Raouraoua is facing competition from Libyan Jamal El Jaafari. Chadian Adoum Djibrine, will be facing Gabonese Leon Ababe. In the South Zone, Suketu Patel from Seychelles will be up against former Zambian international Kalusha Bwalya. For the eastern zone the battle will be between Djiboutian Hussein Fadoul, Sudanese Magdi Sham El Din and Lydia Nsekera of Burundi vying to replace Moses Baransananiye. The General assembly will also name Africa’s football player of the year for 2008. The 2008 Glo-CAF Awards earlier scheduled for January 23 in Dakar Senegal will now be held on Tuesday in Lagos. The frontline nominees for the 2008 Glo-CAF Awards are Emmanuel Adebayor (Togo), Mohamed Aboutrika (Egypt), Amr Zaki (Egypt) Didier Drogba (Cote d’Ivoire) and Essien Emmanuel (Ghana). Mali’s Frederick Kanoute won the 2007 awards on the heels of Didier Drogba (2006) and Samuel Eto’O Fils (2003-2005). Ends
