Mashariki Film Festival The fifth edition of the Mashariki Film Festival is ongoing as screenings for selected films continue to take place at Century Cinema-Kigali City Tower, CINESTAR Nyamirambo and Impact Hub Kiyovu. The film festival aims at bringing African cinema to an African audience with stories from Maghreb to Cape Town, from West to East Africa. And also establish cultural and linguistic exchange within the African continent through their annually celebrated festival. Screenings will continue till Sunday where the best films will be rewarded at Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village at 8:30pm. SekaFest This year’s highly anticipated SekaFest will feature Africa’s famous comedians like Nigerian funnyman Basketmouth, Kenya’s Eric Omondi, and Salvador as well as Alex Muhangi—both from Uganda. The show will also feature a host of talented local comedians, including Arthur Nkusi, who doubles as the host of the festival. The festival begins today with ‘Comedy on the Bus’, at various designated routes by local comedians, as well as open mic at the JJ Club, Park Inn, Kiyovu. Comedy lovers will then be hosted at the Gikondo Expo Grounds on Saturday and Sunday for more rib-cracking jokes from the international acts. Kigali Jazz Junction This month’s edition of the Kigali Jazz Junction, is themed “Women’s Edition” in the spirit of International Women’s Day which falls on March 8. Swedish-based Rwandan artiste Diana Teta is in the country to perform at this month’s edition slated for Friday, March 29, at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village. She, and French zouk musician Medhy Custos are the show’s headliners. Youth in Praise Local gospel singer Billy Irakoze will this Saturday host “Youth in praise”, a live concert that will see youth gather to praise the Lord. It will feature other local gospel acts like Aline Gahongayire, Gaby Akamanzi, Alarm Ministries and Joanna Kalisa. It will take place at the Kigali Convention Centre starting 5pm. Beach Party Team Kelly, DJ Tiger, DJ Momo and MC Bob will this Saturday host a beach party dubbed “Kumuganda Retreat” at Little Paris in Rubavu. The beach party will feature other DJs and artistes like Deejay Pius, Amalon and MC Nairo. Gates open at 6pm. Compiled by Sharon Kantengwa
