Accountants’ body elects committee

The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Rwanda (ICPAR) Saturday elected members of its governing body at a ceremony held at the Kigali Serena Hotel. The function which was presided over by the Minister of Finance, James Musoni, also served to officially launch the body. During his keynote speech, Musoni urged the practicing accountants involved in this institute to harness their efforts towards building and professionalising the field of accounting in Rwanda. “The stakeholders of this institute have an obligation of promoting professionalism in the accountancy fraternity and take it to another level in terms of competence and ethics,” he underscored. He further called upon accountants in Rwanda to take advantage of the growing private sector and the increasing financial institutions to further develop the profession. Evelyn Kamagaju, the Auditor General of State Finances, commended the commitment and enthusiasm fronted by the founder members and other stakeholders for the great job they did in the initial stages of the institute’s inception. She is the outgoing chairman of the interim governing council which was selected to strengthen the institute taking it to the level it is now on. Kamagaju called upon the incoming members to meet the challenges faced by the Institute with zeal and to move it forward. She emphasized the already demonstrated skills and commitment by the founder members many of whom have been elected in new positions. The incoming President, Peter Rutaremara, during his first speech in office promised dedication and commitment to developing the institute. He also called for team-work, sacrifice and hard work to enable the institute successfully tackle the challenges at hand and in the future. ICPAR is charged with regulating the practice of accountancy, observing discipline and ethics in the profession and administering punishments to those who misbehave. It was established in August 2008 following the promulgation of its law, and from that time it has been run by an interim Committee. Ends
