We recognise and celebrate the top 10 poets who are shaping cultural narratives and inspiring social change. Through their performances, popularity, and profound insights, these poets are driving the development of poetry in Rwanda, leaving an indelible mark on the literary landscape. Junior Rumaga Junior Rumaga is a multifaceted artist, renowned for his prowess as a poet, author, playwright, social activist, novelist, and songwriter. As the founder of Sigarwanda House of Poet, he has been instrumental in nurturing Rwanda's poetry community. Rumaga's accolades include the Isibo Award for Best Poet of the Year 2022–2023 and a nomination for Best African Poet by the Zikomo Africa Awards in 2022–2023. His poetry, characterized by evocative depictions of Rwandan family life, reflects the complexity and richness of African existence, Umugore s’umuntu, Amazina ya Nyanja, and Mawe are some of his notable works. Through initiatives like Ndi Igisigo, he promotes poetry as a tool for personal and collective expression. Tuyisenge's poetry, characterized by its emotive storytelling and cultural resonance, has garnered him numerous accolades, including the Springtime of Poet Award in 2016. Confiance Kibasumba Confiance, a young and vibrant poet, burst onto the scene in 2020 with a YouTube channel that quickly gained popularity. Eric Ngangare Eric Ngangare, known by his stage name 1Key, has been a prominent figure in Rwanda's artistic landscape since 2015. Renowned for his captivating performances and thought-provoking works, Ngangare has played a pivotal role in the success of Spoken Word Rwanda. His ability to deliver poetry in multiple languages, coupled with his commitment to addressing societal issues, has earned him widespread acclaim.
