Residents of Nyamasheke District were this morning joined by hundreds of other Rwandans from different districts to celebrate the International Women’s Day. First Lady Mrs Jeannette Kagame is officiating, as the guest of honour, at the celebrations at Mataba ground in Kagano Sector, Nyamasheke District in the western province. Marked every year on March 8, this year’s celebrations are conducted under the theme: “Together, Let’s Build a Safe Family.” On the International scene the theme is “Balance for Better”. Rwanda will mark the day by celebrating achievements in gender equality and in social economic development as well as looking for ways build safer families. The event will also feature awarding best performing girls in primary and secondary school. A total of 234 best performing girls are set to be rewarded by Imbuto Foundation. The event also feature, among other activities, the launch of social mobilisation campaign that seeks to motivate the girl child to perform well in school. Under the leadership of Mrs Kagame, Imbuto Foundation started the Promotion of Girls’ Education Campaign in 2005 to encourage and increase the enrolment of girls in schools. Since then, 4852 best performing girls have been awarded for their outstanding academic performance.
