Sector leader probed for using genocide convicts on personal projects

EASTERN PROVINCE RWAMAGANA — The District has commissioned an investigation into reports that the Executive Secretary of Munyiginya Sector used genocide convicts serving their sentences in community work for his own personal interests. Joseph Nkinzingabo was arrested recently by Rwamagana Police for the alleged offence but later released as investigations continue. “It is true he was recently arrested by police and put behind bars. He was suspected of using TIGists (the convicts) to work for his individual projects which is against the law,” the district Mayor, Valens Ntezirembo said in an interview on Thursday. He explained that the Executive Secretary’s action was contrary to the stipulated guidelines. Ntezirembo pointed out that the district is just waiting for the outcome of the investigation before they can make a final decision. If he is implicated, he said, the law will take its course. “It is normal for a leader to make use of those convicts but not for individual interests. There are guidelines to follow when using them which should not be ignored,” the Mayor explained. In a related development, the head of Cyarukamba cell in the Munyiginya Sector was also arrested and imprisoned in connection with the same offence. Ends
