Police FC head coach Vincent Mashami has expressed his delight after guiding the team to the 2023/24 Peace Cup glory. Two second half goals from Jibrine Akuki and Eric Nsabimana were enough for Police FC to beat Bugesera FC 2-1 in the final at Kigali Pele Stadium on Wednesday, May 1, to win their first Peace Cup since 2015. It was also Mashami’s second Peace Cup trophy in his managerial career, having previously won it with APR FC in 2014 after edging his current club Police FC in the final thanks the lone goal from Michel Ndahinduka. The players did exactly what I wanted from them, we showed some good spirit as finalists despite struggling to maximize our chances. Overall, we were the better side and no question we deserved the trophy,” Mashami told the press in a post-match interview. We had studied their game well as well as their strengths and weaknesses so that we could play according to their plan. Credit goes to my players for delivering a great performance,” he added. This was Mashami’s second major trophy with the law enforcers this season, after winning the Heroes Cup in February after defeating APR 2-1 in the final. The Peace Cup winners took home a cash prize of Rwf12 million in addition to the trophy. Most importantly, they will represent Rwanda in 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup.
