Lion de Fer Rugby Club have reinforced their squad with seven new signings as they bid to challenge for their maiden league title this year. Four of the seven new arrivals at the club were signed from record seven-time champions Remera Buffaloes, while two crossed from reigning champions Kigali Sharks. Didier Kamanzi was signed from Thousand Hills club. The former Remera Buffaloes quartet include; Ombeni Iradukunda, Fidele Fils Irumva, Peter Niyoyita, and Jean Paul Hajali. Sharif Gasore and Emmanuel Dushimimana are the two players who were signed from Kigali Sharks. “The new signings are players with quality and experience, we are confident they help the club to success next season. The target is to challenge for the league title, and the title of every other competition we engage in this year,” said Lion de Fer president, Felix Uwitonze. Following their disappointing 2018 season where they finished at the bottom of the seven-team league table, Lion de Fer will be seeking to turn their fortunes around this season, which gets underway on March 2. Meanwhile, all league clubs have been asked to register their players ahead of this season. “The registration will help our transfer system to be streamlined, to know which player has transferred from and to which club,” said Livingstone Muhire, the Chief Administrator of Rwanda Rugby Federation. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
