The Government of Japan together with UNICEF last week signed a US$7.5 million (around Rwf4.1 billion) agreement to rebuild the earthquake affected western province of Rwanda. Rwanda was hit by a series of earthquakes in February last year. So many people were killed and injured. Also a lot of property worth billions was destroyed. After the earthquake, 45 schools were affected. This disrupted the education of 27,000 children. According to Shigeo Iwatani the Japanese Ambassador to Rwanda, the funding was a gesture of goodwill from the people of Japan to the people of Rwanda. He also said that his wish was that the communities recover rapidly from the impact of this natural disaster. He added that services such as education and health are are important in order to let children continue learning and eventually accomplish their dreams. The grant will be distributed through UNICEF to the affected western province areas. Japan is a true friend of Rwanda. Why? True friends are the ones who help during trouble. Ends
