Lomami Marcel has urged his Gasogi United players to fight for promotion to the Azam Rwanda Premier League following their victory over SEC Academy. Gasogi came from behind to beat Sec Academy 2-1 at Kicukiro Stadium on Saturday. The hard-earned win saw Lomami’s side jumping to second position in Group A of the 2018-19 second division football championship. The former assistant coach of Rayon Sports, Lomami told Times Sport in an exclusive interview that, “We want to keep winning throughout the season and earn promotion to the topflight league next season. I am convinced my players want it even more.” “I have spoken to my boys and told them to focus on one game at a time, the pressure of focusing on the promotion ticket right now would be toxic to our chase.” Gasogi are second of the group with seven points, two behind leaders Aspor FC. The two are the only unbeaten teams in Pool A. “We are doing well so far, that’s why we can’t afford any mistakes, and the players know that. However, I only think about us as a team who wants to win the next game and can win the next game. That’s all,” Lomami noted. Gasogi’s next game will be against Rubavu-based Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle at Kigali Stadium on Saturday. meanwhile, unbeaten Intare lead Group B with a maximum 9 points, leading second-placed Pepiniere by two points, while Hope FC are in third position with 6 points. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
