Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB) has insisted that the existence of youth volleyball camps for students in holidays is very important in the development of the sport in Rwanda. This year’s camp, for U14 and U17 boys and girls, got underway on November 20 and will be climaxing on Friday at Amahoro Stadium, Times Sport has learned. The aim of the camp is to boost the federation’s talent detection agenda from the grassroots level so the country can have a large pool of young players from where the national team players will be selected in future. FRVB Executive Secretary, Christian Hatumimana, says the camps are of paramount value. “We organize these camps so that we can promote volleyball from the grassroots level. We should focus on young talents if the game is to retain its momentum in the future” said Hatumimana Louis Musirikare who in charge of talent development said, “It is been a successful one month in camp with these youngsters, they have learned a lot about volleyball and other basic life skills. When I see the hard work they put into training, I see champions of the future,” editorial@newtimes.co.rw
