Arusha has been confirmed as the host city for the 11th edition of this year’s Inter Cities Zone 5 basketball championships. Fears were abounding that the Tanzanian city was not ready to host the tournament that is slated to throw off from March 24-28 but Inter-Cities executive officer Agina Wesonga told Fiba Afrique that the event is on. “We can confirm that the event will be played in Arusha as per the said dates. We talked to the local organising committee and everything has been put in place,” said Wesonga. Agina who was in Arusha recently said they were well received by the host city and even had talks and made venue visits. Wesonga who was recently in Arusha took time to visit match venues like Soweto which are being refurbished for the championship. On top of teams from Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda, fresh reports also indicate that other cities from South Africa, Mozambique, Somali and Zambia have shown interest in the five-day event. Prior to the championship, a two-day referees’ clinic will be held by a Fiba Africa instructor to try and gauge the referees who will officiate in the tournament. Ends
