Seeing as it’s Thanksgiving Weekend, here’s what I’m most thankful for this year. That I’m still here. Can never take life and good health for granted. Many haven’t made it this far. I’m also thankful for the people in my life. I have a pretty solid support system. Family, Friends and colleagues at work who would drop anything at a moment’s notice to help with whatever I needed and without whom life would be more challenging. I’m so glad God sent you my way! For good weather. We have our fair share of heat and floods but it’s not as bad as what some have to endure in many other places. Those California wildfires are no joke. People lost their homes and everything they own in a matter of minutes. Others burned to death and their grieving families don’t even have bodies to bury! I can’t even begin to imagine the pain. I don’t know if I’d survive cold Winters either and it’s already snowing in some places. I’m grateful for convenience and I say this every year. Aren’t you glad we have Running Water, Electricity, Fast Food, Smartphones, Google, WiFi, ATMs and Online Shopping? We’d be lost without these. I would not trade places with my Grandmother or even my Mum. Our ancestors had to grow their own food, go hunting, fishing and then prepare the food over firewood and it took hours for it to get ready. Today, if you have the means, you can just walk into your favourite restaurant and 20 minutes later, you have your food. People walked thousands of miles to get anything, some walked barefoot to school and now we can drive or fly almost anywhere. Like I said, I’m so glad we have choices. Like my Mum says, our generation is really spoilt for choice and I agree. You go to any Supermarket and find five or more deodorant, detergent, cereal, ketchup etc brands. And if you have kids, a sea of toys to choose from. Our grandparents had to improvise and most of our parents played with DIY and handmade toys. The fact that we can pick up pretty much anything from a Supermarket shelf is something to celebrate. From Tents to Furniture to Potted plants. It’s all there. Last but not least, I’m thankful for freedom. I’m not in jail and wasn’t married off to some old man in exchange for a few cows and goats. I’m glad I can worship at any Church, wear my hair short or long, slip on some Jeans or paint my nails bright Red if I feel like it. I don’t need permission to drive or go shopping. I feel bad that not all girls and women can do all these ordinary things. Just thought about Pakistan’s Asia Bibi. I hope she’s safe and not just her but her entire family as well. It’s sad that they’ll be forced to look over their shoulders for the rest of their lives because of some ridiculous Blasphemy Law. So, what are you thankful for?
