APR Basketball Club have completed the signing of Rwanda internationals Pascal Niyonkuru from Espoir and Bienvenu Niyonsaba from IPRC- South. Guard Niyonkuru, who is commonly referred to as Kaceka, returns to the military side on a two-year deal after spending the last three years with league archrivals Espoir while forward Niyonsaba joins the record 7-time champions on a three-year contract. Former Espoir captain Niyonkuru and former IPRC-South skipper Niyonsaba inked their respective contracts with Aime Karim Nkusi’s side on Thursday afternoon as the black and white outfit continue to beef up their squad ahead of the 2018/2019 season, which kicks off on November 23. Niyonkuru was at APR from 2012 to 2015 before moving to Nyamirambo-based Espoir. On the other hand, the forthcoming season will be the first time for Niyonsaba to feature for any side other than IPRC- South in the national basketball league. The 24-year old joined the Huye-based side in 2014. He was instrumental in his former side’s impressive 2016 campaign which saw them finish second in the league before upsetting heavyweights Patriots to lift the post-season Play-off Games title. Speaking toSaturday Sport on Friday, Niyonsaba said he was thrilled to be joining one of the all-time biggest basketball clubs in the country and looked forward to the new challenge. In the 2017/2018 season, Niyonsaba was named the best rebounder of the year, recording a total 78 rebounds – both offensive and defensive. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
