Tuesday Group H Rwanda 1-1 Guinea CAR 0-0 Ivory Coast Other results Burundi 1-1 Mali Seychelles 0-0 South Africa Swaziland 0-2 Egypt Comoros 2-2 Morocco Malawi 0-0 Cameroon Tanzania 2-0 Cape Verde Guinea will have to wait for match-day 5 to confirm a place at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after dropping points for the first time in Group H in a 1-all draw with Rwanda’s Amavubi at Kigali Stadium on Tuesday. On the other hand, the hosts earned their first point in the group campaign having previously lost to Central African Republic (CAR), Ivory Coast and Guinea in the first three games. Guinean striker Martnez José Kante opened the scoring in the 32nd before Jacques Tuyisenge, a striker with Kenyan champions Gor Mahia, leveled with 13 minutes to time. Martinez dribbled past APR right-back Fitina Ombalenga in a solo effort to hand the visitors a first-half lead while Tuyisenge, 27, scored from Meddie Kagere’s assist on a ball he received from second half substitute Andrew Buteera. Guinea had a chance to join Madagascar, Egypt and Tunisia in booking tickets to next year’s Afcon finals in Cameroon but Tuyisenge’s equalizer spoilt their early qualification party. Amavubi could have collected all the points on the night after goalie Yves Kimenyi set the ball to Djihad Bizimana who also immediately forwarded it to Eric Rutanga in the left flank. However, Kagere’s effort – from Rutanga’s curling pass – hit the crossbar in stoppage time. With two match rounds to go, coach Vincent Mashami and his men remain with nothing to hope for as far as the 2019 AFCON Finals tournament is concerned following their three defeats and Tuesday’s home draw in the first four Group ‘H’ games. Guinea continue to top the table with 10 points while Amavubi are at the bottom with one point. Former African champions Ivory Coast are second with seven points followed by CAR in third position with 4 points. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
